Melestarikan warisan budaya merupakan cara untuk menghargai dan berbagi tanggung jawab kita sebagai bagian dari masyarakat.
About Cultural Heritage
- UNESCO (the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation): Heritage is what we value from the past. These definitions reflect what we value or reject in our present surroundings, and anticipate for the future (Davison 1991).
- Heritage is anything that is considered important enough to be passed on to future generations.
- Natural Heritage refers to the natural aspects like fauna and flora, landscapes, beaches, coral gardens etc. that are considered important enough to be preserved for future generations.
- Cultural Heritage refers to the cultural aspects like heritage sites, monuments, folklore, traditional activities and practices, languages etc. that are considered vital to be preserved for future generations.
The main value of heritage is its capacity to generate employment and income (Davison 2000). Heritage is an important economic asset, but it is also clearly much more.
Our Common Cultural Heritage Issues
The changing of our cultural heritage is caused by:
The practices done by the community:
- The management and conservation of the cultural heritage
- The processes of production, consumption and engagement relating to the cultural heritage
The ignorance of the community towards the existence of our cultural heritage:
- Most people are not aware of the value of their cultural heritage
- They do not care about the heritage
- People are ashamed to admit their own culture
- They adore the more modern aspects around them instead of acknowledging their cultural heritage in the place in which they live
- Minimum actions are taken to preserve their cultural heritage
