Students did Passport Project in the finding info stage, to get more knowledge about countries around the world. Using passport template provided by teacher students completed the data about country geographical facts and other interesting features including landmarks, flags, language, mountain, river, etc.
To help students to learn about perspective o a country which is quiet complex concept for students, I cretaed a guideline which helped them completing the required tasks I also did the same thing when I found difficulties in delivering the abstract concept of country’s history to students . These two guidelines really gave clear expectation to my students and helped to raise the standard of their learning.
It’s one of m favorite activity during the unit that I created to encourage thinkig and creativity. students wrote the imaginative trip around the world and made a recount writing about it. It aimed to develop heir knowledge about the countries around the world after they did passport project.

After exploring some study cases, students needed to come up with solution. They discussed the possible solutions and classified them into three main strategies to solve conflicts. Students used the Solution Card to analyze the problem deeper by finding the possible outcomes for each strategy chosen.
As a part of taking action, 3C did a mini conference about conflict and resolution at the end of the unit. They came up with ideas of action that we can do to apply the knowledge and skills that they had learnt in this unit. They came up with some good ideas about it.

How We Organize Ourselves - Leadership
These files below are some of the compilation of lesson ideas to teach about leadership to grade 5 students including lesson plan, worksheets, assessment ideas. Somehow, leadership education should be delivered to students earlier within their learning journey by involving all stakeholders at school including parents at home. I have developed and successfully applied these ideas, so hopefully they work for you too.
This lesson weekly plan about leadership is made with inquiry based learing format adapted from Kath Murdoch's inquiry model.

Where We are in Place and Time - Explorer
In this explorer unit, students learn world history through the lens of the explorers which we believed helping to form the world today. With the central idea: People explore for many reasons and their journey can make an impact on society. students learn about some well-known explorers and their journeys, reasons people explore, the impact of exploration to the society. You may take a look at some ideas that I have created to support the teaching learning in this unit.
We use this lesson weekly plan to guide us to deliver the knowledge, teach the skills, and embedded concepts within the unit about exploration.

This is IT (Information and Communication Technology) lesson plan which we use to support the exploration unit.
This is the final project guideline for students which help them to manage themselves to prepare the final project requirements
In this unit, we also develop student's art skills to understand the concept of Arts in Society focusing on costumes or fashion wore by explorer in their exploration. This lesson plan really linked nicely with this UOI.

How The World Work - Energy
In the unit about energy, students explored some basic scientific principles with lots of hands on learning experiences. At the first time, we learned some basic knowledge about energy including the form of energy and the source of energy. With an understanding that 'energy is derived from a range of sources and stored in various ways'' we tried to find out how energy are being used in our daily activities.
We did lots of experiments therefore we come up with the idea of having simple scientific procedure writing format which is really helpful for students to record their experiment analysis. At the end of the unit, we did Science Fair where each individual chose or modify a scientific experiment to show how energy works. It is the most engaging unit and also become good continuity after they learned about invention in grade 4.
Have a look at some of the files below to get some ideas teaching about energy:

Teachers use the weekly plan to make sure that all learning outcomes have been covered through the learning engagement that we have done. You can see how we tried to develop students understanding in scaffolding way.

These two files are actually similar and have the same purpose. They can be used as a guideline to record the scientific experiment in form of procedural writing. Students were familiar with this because this format is so simple and easy to use.
When we were learning about the energy use at home, students did an observation of energy uses at their own houses. By using these guideline, students tried to observe the use of energy before they learn about energy and do another observation after they finish studying the energy unit. As the result, they can compare how they attempt to save energy after they know the importance of maintaining the non-renewabe energy sources.

A creative idea to introduce the use of energy in human daily activities. The worksheet is completed with pictures which might be suitable for lower grade students

Sharing The Planet - Climate Change
For the first time in grade 5, we tried to implement an exhibition setting in our program. We use this format to introduce and to prepare the students to be ready for Grade 6 Exhibition later. Basically, we still have the same learning process, but we did with slightly different strategies where students were really involved in making decision for the study including deciding activities, designing assessment, and create reflection for learning. Teachers and students often shared thought and were involved in alive class discussions about this climate change topic. The climate change unit was also become more relevant when students took real and sustainable actions towards the environment.
Greehouse Effect Animation
This animation shows how greenhouse effect happen and become the main cause of global warming
Exhibition is the culmination of learning in IB PYP program and it happen at the end of students learning journey in grade 6. To promote this, I start to introduce the concept in grade 5, but we did it in form of class exhibition instead of individual. These files are the guideline of the class exhibition that we did on a topic about Climate Change. The first file is the weekly planning guideline for the class. The second is a presentation to give students understanding about inquiry stages which is essential for exhibition. The last file is display that you can use to guide class through the entire exhibition process.
I created this presentation in order to give students more understanding about how earth climate system is changed because of global warming. It was difficult to find an appropriate media to teach this concept, therefore I made it in order to fulfill students' learning need about this topic.
Taking action is become one of the focus of this unit. It also become one of my goal to encourage students to take action. It is so relevant to take action towards environment regarding with the climate change issue. The first file is guideline for students to create proposal for their action and the presentation file is the action result done by one of my student.
To raise awareness towards climate change, students create a short movie clip about climate change and its effect on people lives. I made an ICT lesson plan as integration subject to support our topic and below is the assessment checklist for the movie maker result made by students.
Another integration subject with Math, when students use their statistic skill to find data about the top ten causes of global warming

How We Express Ourselves - Ritual and Tradition
Culture become the main topic that students learn in this unit. They learn about the elements of culture which are used in rituals and traditions including artifacts, arts, language, beliefs and values, etc. We did a lot of interesting activities throughout the unit such as, traditional Balinese dance, My Culture Identity Day, creating their own ritual and tradition until the least project presentation. It was the most fun and exciting unit this year...See our collection of the documentation of our learning in this unit
This lesson plan will guide the teaching learning process to understand about how ritual and tradition are expressing certain cultures. Lots of practical ideas that you can use in your classroom.
One of my favorite moment this unit was when students shared their understanding about culture by analyzing their own culture and share it to others. It's not only successfully encouraged creativity but also appreciation towards diversity.
As tool to find out about kinds of ritual and tradition which were practiced by people, students use this sheet for doing the survey. It was interesting to see the result which is really useful for further investigation about this topic.
This unit is really great for collaboration planning especially related with IT and Visual Arts subjects. In Arts, students learned about cultural symbols and their relation with the ritual and tradition. They also explored the belief and value of symbols. In IT, students learn about how to express their creativity using MS Paint. As the last project for both subjects, students apply their arts skills and created self cultural symbols which is made by using MS Paint with skills they learnt in IT. Along with two lesson plans from IT and Arts, I also attach the assessment criteria and tool for the last project.
