Students are able to:
- Create a visual presentation of a celestial object in 2D and 3D
- Apply illustrated texture in a drawing and also real texture in sculpture (using paper- mache techniques)
Related Concepts: colors, texture, value
Skills Focused:
- Use and blend colors and the combination that represent certain planet
- Apply the understanding of proportion of different size of 3D shapes to create a system or pattern
- Use paper-mache to create texture a sculpture or a planet model
Procedure:
Skecthing/ Drawing Planet 2D
- Explain about how to sketch texture in a drawing. E.g. texture of crater on terrestrial planet, texture on a tree branch
- Show the color spectrum of planet (from the image)
- Review primary and secondary colors. And also cool and warm color
- Use color combination to color the sketch. Choose approriate color groups (red, orange, reddish yellow, reddish brown, etc) to blend the colors in drawing the planet
- Ask students to be aware of the value (light to dark)
- Explain again that texture best shown by creating an artwork that have form/ 3D e.g. collage, paper mache, clay, etc
- Ask students to bring materials for papier mache, newspaper, glue, paint, balloon. To get full instruction see the link below (or you can find other resources of your preference http://www.instructables.com/id/Papier-Mache-Planets/?ALLSTEPS
- The learning focus wil be on how students blend colors using paint by choosing the right group colors for coloring the planet and also how to create 3D real texture using papier mache technique.
ASESSMENT TASK:
Collaborated with UOI
Create planet model 2D and/or 3D to support their visual presentation of planet characteristics in solar system.
