Students worked in groups, and there were some great evidence of learning during the process. One of the group who focusing on the cultural heritage of social system did a visit to two different areas in Surabaya which are known as Pecinan and Arabic village. In this place they found out some interesting facts about the history of the community and also the understanding about migration of Moslem culture and Chinese culture which finally shaping these places or community and influencing the multicultural background in Surabaya. The more interesting learning focus will happen when they learn about how to maintain the harmony to live in the multicultural context, which they plan to conduct a conference about cross cultural understanding in the next following week
All of these activities were planned and done by themselves, of course with the guide and help of the teachers from PYP 6 and other grade too. It's interesting to see, where students were engaged actively in inquiry learning about local culture. By having this learning experience, we do hope that students will apply the knowledge and skills they gained during the exhibition to build more awareness of their own culture and furthermore to take care the world cultural heritage, starting from the society where they lived in.
