Since they have unit about Puberty under "Who We Are" transdisciplinary theme, in Visual Arts we're inquiring into body image and collage in surrealism style. So the idea is, students will create collage about their personal identify, body image and life choices during puberty stage. We focus more on social emotional changes of this puberty stage as well as studying about surrealism art style
In one of the related concept we learn about concept of beauty/ aesthetic and we'd like to see it from the Art perspective. Students created a simple collage by cutting out magazine, mix and match the images and combine them so it become a sureallism collage that tell story about beauty.
This related concept enable us to explore deeper into this subject as well as deepen their understanding about their perspective toward own body image and others. I hope that after this lesson students are aware more about the idea of aesthetic or beauty which often become a dilemma experience for teenager or adolscence, especially in how they perceive it.
Below is my lesson plan:
Tuning in:
- girl’s self esteem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c96SNJihPjQ
- Measure Body Mass Index: How proportional is your body? What do you feel about your body?
- Making collage about beauty.
- Reflection question: What is beauty? What does being beautiful mean to you? How do you portray beauty based your imagination
- After knowing their BMI, what do they need to do if they’re overweight?
Hope it's useful!
